i'm sure yak'em will come around with input later today, but i would think your best bet to get to know more about it visit some of the Kayak fishing forums, www.bckfc.org or www.lafayettekayakfishing.com.
you'll be able to ask around and probably find some good deals on good starter kayaks and what to look for in kayaks, where to fish, tactics, etc... |

if your from laffy def join up on lafayettekayakfishing.com, great group of guys, i think a few post on here. BCKFC has some great info on the east side of the state, but i guarantee that the guys in lafayette will take you out in one of their extra kayaks and let you try it out, thats the most important thing you need to do before you buy is try out a kayak, you wont regret, and dont be afraid of spending money, because it is worth it, I will keep yall updated there will be a demo day coming up soon, that will be the best place to go and find out.
ill post up next time we go if you want to tag along or something if you have any more questions dont be afraid to ask and ill do what i can to help ya out |

Deffinately do some research on the two club sites before purchasing, and As yak'em said their are plenty people out there that are willing to let you tag along and use their extra yak. Buying the right boat the first go round is always better. The demo days are great for trying out multiple brands and you can save some money by buying a used/demoed one.

Half the battle is won...I talked the old lady into buying a kayak so now all I need to do is some major homework. I went to p&p today and got alot of usefull info from the salesman over there. They are having a "semi-guided" trip in January in Leeville, 100 dollars and they furnish the yak and help you in learning how to fish out of one, this may be helpfull.
I was looking at the Native 14ft tandem then I saw the Hobie decked out for fishing, this thing was sweeet, but it was 2500.00...What kind do you guys own? |

I've got the Ultimate 14.5 Solo and the Magic 14.5, both are great boats, both have their own purpose, ultimate for standing, push poling sight casting made easy, and the magic for real shallow water.

I have the heritage redfish 12, great for stalking in the flats, super stable, and the quietest yak on the market

They are both real stable, enough that you can stand, I'm 6'0 and 240, no problem, if you are in a windy area the ultimate will blow around abit, other than that awesome boats

BackPacker sells them. Massey's in Baton Rouge and New Orleans. The Redfish is a great boat, I had the 14 ft model a while back. Yak'em is right, it is a very quiet boat. I just did not like the layout very much. One of these days I am just going to have to go ahead and design and build one myself. I am never happy with the boats I buy. |

You see the one at Pack and Paddle with the trolling motor in the middle of it??? I almost got that one, but got worried bout the battery dying out in the middle of the lake............then what?? swim and pull it behind you?? that'd be a sight at the launch!!!
