Bounce Toledo Bend Smackdown 7/19-20

Headed up to the camp to do a little guys weekend tournament. I was able to put 3 of my friends on some great summer fishing. 43 keepers hit the deck over the weekend with well over that in throwbacks. Early morning topwater was extended til about 730 with cloud coverage. All other fish were caught in 25 to 35 ft range around Indian Mounds, Pirates, and Hausen. Biggest two went 5.42 and 4.3 lb with several in the 3lb range. Finding the afternoons to be better for size here lately with more numbers being caught in the morning.

We have a camp at big bass. I try to stay away from LA side in the summertime. There isn't a whole lot of diversity like the TX side. Yokum and the surrounding areas (Big Bass,Kites, Arnolds) are great for Spring and Fall patterns, but there isnt enough deep water to keep fish stacked up in the summer. I am sure there are a few places that hold fish, but topographically none of them stand out for me.

I fish the same all the areas you described but with much less success! I have been playing with football head jigs in deeper water when the wind will allow.

Try searching for fish with smaller sized baits that cover alot of water (C rigged fry or centipede, shaky head worm, deep crank, or texas rigs) depending on the area and structure you are fishing ... Jigs arent much of a "fish finder" for me. If i know they are in an area i will cast em a few times for bigger fish. 90% of the fish i opened up had small threadfin shad in their bellies... hope that helps you some.

Key for me has been to find hydrilla edges next to steep drop offs. It becomes sparse around 17 ft. Bass are keying into the grasslines esp if there are stumps or some kind of structure in depths around 25 ft next to these edges.
