Default best all around small boat?

Been looking at alot of boats both custom built and factory built, glass and allum. I like the marsh runner alot and boral makes a nice boat but have seen some nice boats latly in the marsh, i would like around 17x48 or close to that, just looking for ideas i am running a 15x48 alweld now.

well i am running a 25 yamaha 3 cylinder and would like to keep it for a newer boat, if i go bigger i will need more motor

In my opinion a 1648 is the biggest you would want without killing your motor's performance.

well i have not rulled out buying a 40 hp but thats another story as to which maker of motor to buy in a 40 hp, it would be easy if they still made they old merc 40

cant fish laccafish in that, crap another month i will need a kayak in there. i have considered somthim big with a big motor but then either i need 2 boats or i lose fishin marsh

If you're patient you can find a 40 merc with 60 carbs. I see them every so often on LA sportsman or southeasttexas.

Those new tohatsu tldi's are pretty good motors from what I hear. Heard the 50 is noticeably stronger than 40. With the fuel injection, I don't think you can make a 40 into a 50, but you can put 40 decals on a 50. Food for thought.

Model number on the motor will tell the horsepower.
Can't hide that one from the Feds. if you re fishing in the reserve.

I stand corrected. After reading a couple of other threads I see that the 40 can be tuned up to a 50 very easily. Sounds like that's the way to go.

How about custom boats, anyone know of a builder with a good design and a price range, want to run marsh but also on the bend or out on the lake around lake charles

If you want a tough as nails small boat that you can do anything in, get an old whaler and fix it up.....13"6' or even a 15......awesome little boats!!! And a 40 pushes them both real good!!
