Default Suzuki 225 2 stroke

I have a 2003 (225) Suzuki 2 stroke outboard. I have ran the boat twice an both times while in the middle of running it throws an overheat/over Rev alarm I'm guessing. It says REV on the bottom of the light. Sometimes it runs at a higher than normal RPM. I turn it off then back on and boom back to normal off to running again. It takes no time just to come to an idle kill it turn it back on and go but it's aggravating and makes the ole lady nervous. Please help and thx in advance

O and it idles down itself when the alarm goes off like when a low oil light goes off it's going into protect mode until I reset it by turning it off then turning it back on

I had that happen on a yamaha. It turned out to be a faulty over temp sensor.

One possible thing that could cause this is the rubber hub could be going bad and causing the engine prop to slip.

When the engine does rev up, does the boat slow down some? If the boat does not slow down, something else is the problem.

I had a DT 175 that acted like that. I had a faulty temp sensor.

I'm hoping that's what it is I'm going in the morning. Fuel filter looked good. Cleaned the pee hole in case that's what it was. If it does it tomorrow I'm gonna put it in the shop

After your engine warms up and the thermostats open the water should start spraying out of the rear port on the engine below the cowling. You can always pull your two thermostats and clean them. If it is prop slip that is causing the alarm, then your motor should over rev if you hammer down on take off. That is when the prop has the most load on it.

I think I may have figured it out. Its only when I turn on plane. It did it again Sunday and I noticed it was when I turned on plane and the motor cavitated and it did it. I will check it again when I come back in 14 days in the mean time I want to order a new prop. I have a 3 blade will a 4 blade give me better performance or should I stick with a 3 blade as a back up
