Default WC45 Riga

Does anyone know if they are dismantling or just repairing the WC45 rig? It was the first time I've been out there in a couple of years and noticed a big jack-up rig set up within 50 feet of it with some workers coming and going to the older wc45 via crane doing some welding on it. After getting setup and getting into a groove catching fish, a guy from the jack-up rig tells we have to leave because there's a crew boat and barge on the way and need to get set up there to work. I asked if I could move to another corner of the rig or come back after they off-loaded, or when they got finished doing whatever they were going to do, and he said they were going to be working on the whole rig and I had to leave. It was too noisy to have much more of a conversation, and the fellow didn't see to be in the mood anyway. With the boats and size of the barge that was approaching, and that they set up
a new rig practically on top of the old one..makes me wonder if they are dismantling the old one. Anyone know the story?

I didn't take any pics. I was hoping someone would be in the loop. I have always seen other boats coming and going from this rig while fishing it, so I know someone has to know what is going on with it. Do you know the one I'm referring to?

It's a big, old structure labeled "WC45". It's got a big purple tank on top facing the west with LSU in gold written on it. I know someone has got to know the story behind this. This rig has been a fish factory. I hope they're just doing some repairs and not taking it down..like they are with so many others.

In the last 5-6 years the compnay I work for has made 3 lift boats whose sole purpose is to remove Old Rigs. I'm talking 300' class lift boats with 500 tons cranes.

We also just sent out a platform for Apache that's headed to SMI block 69, it's only about 130' so it's going to be close to shore.

10-4 on that. We painted that tank back in 2004 while I was living on the platform running a loop off of it. The platform is actually an old railroad bridge out of Missouri that was set in the late 40's or early 50's. After hurricane Rita, divers came out and inspected and some of the legs and cross braces were cracked and we had to unman it. I haven't been there since 2005 so I can't really say what is going on there. I do know that a ton of trout has come from that place.

It was built out of an old railroad bridge.
It was first built by Michem(spelling?) who owned the Saints and had something to do with FINA.
Then Philips bought it out. I worked there some in the early 80's. It had a wood deck. Now I see it is grating and the old tanks were taken off.
It is probably one of the oldest platforms off the coast of Cameron Parish.
Lots of head bumpers going up and down the stairs from the boat landing to the first deck.
Lots of legs and braces under the water.

Yup. Gone. Lots of good memories. Solid 4-6lb chunks off that rig

Did they ever clean up the one just to the south of it that was buoyed and partially emerged? That could be a huge hazard.
