New Reality Show Centers on Crawfish Industry

A new reality show is being shot right here in Acadiana, and it centers around the crawfish industry. It's called the "Crawfish Cowboy," and will feature Lake Arthur resident Cody Newman.
Newman raises his own crawfish, but also buys, cooks and sells them from his modest shop in Lake Arthur.
"He's an absolute brilliant guy who also, just you know, has that good old cajun feel to him, he's perfect," said the show's creator Raymond Segura.
Newman is the "Crawfish Cowboy" in the pilot, and for a week crews followed him as he harvested crawfish from his ponds and conducted his daily business. Newman said shooting the show was fun, but strange constantly having cameras on him.
"There's a lot of people that don't know what it takes to make a good crawfish and the ups and downs of it," said Newman.
Segura is a Jennings native, and came up with the idea for the show during a visit home. He said he grew up eating crawfish, but never really knew much about where they came from.
"I always wanted to do a project that expressed what the cajun and creole culture is like down in south Louisiana, so it was just like the perfect little melding of the two," said Segura of his show.
He said while the show focuses on how crawfish make it from pond to plate, the show is more about the cajun way of life.
"And it's going to highlight the cajun heritage, our food, our music, the work ethics, our religion and all that good stuff. It's going to be a pretty positive thing for southwest Louisiana," said Newman.
Newman and Segura both believe the show will change perceptions about people in southern louisiana...
"Absolute incredible business men and they know how to take a little and make a lot and that's what America is all about," said Segura.
Segura couldn't release many details about when or where the show will be on television, but said it will get picked up.

I went to school with Cody and he is a trip to be around. Him and I used to hunt together a lot.

Hope his interview didn't incriminate us from when we used to hunt together.
