Default Check out the size of this thing

I just whupped the crap out of this Water Moccoson with a 5 foot piece of garden hose. Its the longest one I have ever killed or seen. I think they are on the move again do to upcomming cold fronts. He was sitting on the cement where it was still warm from the sun. I walked right up to him and he never moved. Only when i went to wacking on him with the hose did he try and get away.. he was about 42.75 inches long.. Thats pretty long fer a water moccoson.

Holy cow!!! All my friends were telling that those were harmless water snakes!!! I went chasing them around when they wouldn't quit gettin in my crawfish traps. I guess I'm dang lucky that one of the dozen or so that took a swing at me didn't connect!

I'm beatin my boys for this one!

that kinda reminds me of a story. One day I was mowing grass for one of my customers, A big 4' long snake slithered out of one of the flower beds. My customer was sitting on the porch,so I hollered at him to come take a look. He ran and got his rifle. when he rounded the corner with his gun, the snake started trying to get away. I then proceeded to move back and forth to cut him off so My customer could get a clear shot. As soon as my customer got next to me, the snake shot up under my mower deck. Unfortunately, my customer was right in the path of the grass shoot. It made the most awful meat slapping sound as it severed his head and sent it flying about 30 yards across the yard. The rest of the body was slung like hamburger all over my customer. All over his overalls,in his shirt pocket,on his glasses. It was funny and disgusting at the same time. He almost vomited on the spot before he could shower and change. We still get a good laugh about it every once in a while.

Now there is a difference between a "Water Mocosin" and a regular "Water snake"

A Water Mocosin Is shaped just like a Cotton Mouth... Short, fat, and the tail comes to a "tip/point" real quick, but has the 2 tone brown striped like the one in the pictures above. It also has a real wide head.

A regular water snake is the same color as the water mocosin above, but are long and slender and dont have the wide head...

I have never reasearched this, its only what ive learned by myself and "hear-say".... someone correct me if im wrong..

Ok. All I saw was the color. I don't think what they were pointing out had the cottonmouth head. I do know what you are talking about with that.

Wow, they must feel like a certain other type...Hated for their color!

Most of em had a real wide head when I got done...or just gone!

"Cotton Mouth" is just another name for a Water Mocosin. The inside of the mouth is white.....looks like the color of Cotton.
