Default Grand Isle Hit

A strong line of storms hit Grand Isle this afternoon spawning 3-4 tornadoes. At least 5 homes have the roofs torn off and power lines are down.

No injuries were reported. Several water spouts formed and a couple came ashore. Extensive damage around Rasberry and Boudreaux Lanes. It started on the west end of the island and moved southest. Looks like 7 properties are damaged.

There was a water spout south east of barataria pass this past Sunday just before the first storm. It stayed down for about 5 minutes and went back up.

I hope no one was hurt in the ones today.

Karl Thayers realty office was hit, along with his Moms house next door. Both received heavy damage, but no injuries

I've never thought much of water spouts. They've never scared me. I've never seen them as destructive. In fact, Calcutta drove his Haynie into one on purposeone at the tourny last year.......these must've been huge!!

I remeber when I was kid we were at a friend of ours camp and the weather got really bad. The old lady who was at the camp took a knife and stuck it in the porch and started praying a Rosary. The weather broke and we didn't even get rained on.

That's scary for sure. Glad no one was hurt.
That really hits home for me. Raspberry St. is one street over from Fir Ln. which is where my camp was and I have a buddy that still has one on Fir and another that has one on the bay. I hope my buddy's camp didn't get hit too badly.

Waving a knife and sticking it in the ground is old indian medicine...
I guess by praying the Rosary she was covering all bases

Water spouts is a tornado over water. Same destructive power. Most people think they aren't anything to worry about but they are. I guess they think they are like a dust devil in a dirt field.
