Default Electric fence

Thinking of putting a 12volt battery operated electric fence around my garden. Does anyone know how well these things work and length of time between battery charges? The garden is in an area infested with possums and coons and I am not around enough at night to shoot em.

They make them with solar panels on the controlers.
No need to charge the battery.

I am looking on FarmTek's site. Does a fence controller and a fence charger do the same basic thing? (electrify the fence)

That fence charger will fire em up for sure. Once they touch that thing, they won't be back. I assume your talking of the one you plug into 110AC. Used one before cause of cats, man it got them.

look into electric netting we use it to keep chickens in a certain area sometimes, I bet it would work great to keep out coons and other garden stealing pests. IMO battery powered fence systems require to much maintenance because ants love electricity and they will get into the connections and short out the fence. Now it may work better around a garden just because you are there alot so you can control the ants, but out in a field the solar powered ones are worthless

Thanks for the help. I had not considered the possible ant problem, but they probably would find it, they always seem to get in our landscape lighting. I was planning on using the 20 inch tall netting. I might try to steal some power from speck-chaser's nursery lot.
