For those considering a trip to P-cola Beach
Jimmy I was gonna get up and go snapper fishing this morning but found out the area i wanted to fish was in the "closed area"... so me and a few friends just decided to go to the beach. i decided to bring my yak just in case i saw some schooling spanish or something. about 130 we saw a big blob cruising down the beach and people getting out of the way of it. i grabbed the yak and hit the water with the quickness. with the peddle drive i easily made it out in front of the object and slipped up on it. to my surprise it was a manatee!! i had never seen one of these guys out there before. i cruised with it, taking video and pictures for about 5-10 mins. i could tell he/she wanted to get back out into deeper water so i eventually stopped and let it cruise out. very cool experience! Oh, NO oil to be found anywhere. NO tar balls on the beach. NO sheen in the water. NOTHING!! Very Very hot though! Like i said, i only peddled for about 15 mins total and i was completely drenched in sweat! And here are a couple videos too. sorry about the poor quality but if i use the good quality video i cant upload it straight to youtube. Well here are the links to the videos... with the old forum i could put them straight on the post but i cant figure it out now. |

I had one swim under me while swimming out in the surf in Destin. I had jumped up to keep my head above the water when a wave came and when I looked down all I saw was a huge shadow. I about drowned because I didn't know what it was but I sure as hell knew I didn't want to step on it.

Jjam, it is beautiful over there. Makes me yearn for a trip there soon. I have a friend that owns a house in Lillian up on Soldier Creek. I have learned to love the 'laid back' lifestyle y'all have over there. Maybe someday I can leave this 'rat-race'. (The rats are winning)...

UPDATE.....
some oil showed up big-time today on the beach by the pier. Truely sickening! Media is all over the place. Some yahoo found a small female beached dolphin and tried to help it but it died. (Personally I think it died because they pulled it out of the water) But the media is all over it down here. |
