Default West Cove & Rabbit Island

I am new to boating in and around big lake. I have an 18' tracker grizzly and would like to fish in the west cove area.

What are the under water hazards to look for in west cove?
Where is the best place to launch to get to rabbit island? I was looking at west cove launch, but i read somewhere that it is really shallow at the mouth.

any help would be greatly appreciated. I am hoping to get out there on 9/21/16

West cove launch is fine. Be careful of crap pots when exiting into west cove-follow the path created by them. Shallow all along bank of WC and near Rabbit Island.

No...just shallow water on the north side as you approach the ship channel. Not a problem on the south cut entering the channel.

Something that has helped me a ton is the navionics app. It is a $10.00 download but will really help you get in and out. Once you get in and track your path then all you have to do is follow it every time. I went from not knowing anything about the lake to being able to get around in the dark now because of the app. well worth the $$

Solid advise ! This is only my second year on the lake and the little I do know is courtesy of this app. Stay on top of your updates in the menu section as they constantly are tweaking and adding.

Folks wade fish on the south west side and they are there before daylight. Something to watch out for.

I second the boating app. It has helped me get to and from many times and gives me peace of mind. Great not only for the navigational charts but also for the sonar charts (1ft hd contours fishing charts), weather and tides.
