Big Lake - Friday Night and Saturday morning
Saturday morning, got out early by myself and the fog was go bad that I could barely see 50 yards out from the boat. Went to Turners and heard boats, but couldn't see them. Once the fog started to clear, there were 5 boats near me on the Turner's Bay reef, but I didn't catch anything or see anyone catching anything. Decided to head back to my dock, but messed up someone wade fishing around Deatonville because I didn't see him due to the fog until I got too close. Saw other boats out, but it was still foggy and hard to see. Sorry for those people that I got too close to, but I couldn't see you until it was too late because of the fog. Finally got near my dock and decided to try to fish a reef about 400 yards off my dock. I started a drift over the reef and immediately caught 4 flounder and a black drum. 3 flounder on Lil John and 1 flounder and the black drum on Gulp chartreuse swimming mullet. The bite turned off as quick as it started, so I trolled back and started the drift again. It was a very slow drift, because there was no wind. The tide was moving and then I set the power pole down when I caught a few. I caught 18 trout between 8:30 a.m. and 10 a.m. (I think it was the bottom of a low tide), with 11 keepers. I try not to keep trout shorter than 14 inches. Was going to try to fish Saturday night, but wind started blowing around 3 p.m., so I decided not to. Fun weekend. Shout out to "W" for the heads up on the reef off my dock holding fish. Sure is nice to have a guide give me a fishing tip (even when I am not fishing with him). Great weekend. |

Turner bay reef is out there close to the main ship channel isn't it?
I saw boats stacked up there all weekend and stuck away. I've always found that if there are a lot of boats stacked up in an area it tends to be lookers thinking "oh there are some boats there must be fish" most times it's opposite. The fog and low tide were killer this weekend. |

Yes, it is close to the channel on your right when you enter Turner's Bay from the north side off of the ship channel. Most people fishing there traditionally use live bait, but several were fishing artificial on Saturday.

Ya there were a ton of boats there Sunday. Of course the fog was so thick you couldn't see anything until about 10.
