Fished Leeville this weekend.
Bite was slow but wind was not. Water temps in the high 60's 67-69 with a spot or two in the 70 range. Bite picked up Saturday on reds. no idea on salinity |

Leeville and Golden Meadow area has been pretty good when the winds lay down on trout. Grand Isle is still a little ways away. You can probably catch a few trout but give it until May and it should be really good provided they don't get too much fresh water from venice.

Fished GI for 4 days last week and didn't have much to show for it. With the boat I have I can't get into the marsh ponds so I stuck mainly to the bay area. All I caught was a couple drum and a boatload of hard-heads. That was the first time I've ever caught hard-heads on live minnows. Water temps were average of 65 and the water tasted very salty to me.
I did see a bunch of guys catching one drum after another with the ocassional bull red, they were fishing from the jettis by the pass. A friend of mine was fishing Leeville at the same time, the bite was slow but they were catching small reds up against the grass with dead shrimp under a cork. Most of their fish came from less than 12" of water. |

This time of year stick to the Marsh areas for the trout. That's where the shrimp still are. When the shrimp start moving to the passes and beach the trout will follow. Transition time is tough because you can't pinpoint their location day after day. The wind's a b**** too this time of year. Let it warm up and let the winds calm in May-August and it'll be ON! in the main bays and surf.
