Lacassine Bayou
and what would be the ideas of "stocking" the bayou like the recently did else where, cant remember exactly where they did it, but i remember seeing that they released like 100k bass in a river system somewhere to try and bring them back... what would be your thoughts on something such as this on the bayou? i am not real familiar with the bayou, but as far as i know barely any bass are caught there. unless there is a secret that i am not aware of.... |

There is a secret that you were not aware of and the river they just stock was the Mermentau and I know some guys that drop some around Streeters so there is bass that they stock in that bayou When the water is right you can catch them in there pretty decent

I have seen people have great trips out there. Bass and sacalait...Mostly south of the Lorraine Bridge. And I know it gets decent around Streeters Canal when the water clears up. There are also two long canals that run from the east side of the Lacassine Pool that clear up too, and I have heard of decent reports there as well. Stocking wouldn't be a bad idea...even if it doesn't help, I don't see it causing any issues.

Yeah stocking it def couldnt hurt anything... WLF will likely provide the fry to stock it with... Get a few ppl together to go spread em out.

Chris, catfishing is good. I have also fished the white perch during the spawn and caught a few on the cypress trees. And also bassyakr said they recently put 100000 or 500000 fry on the west fork.
They also just did the mermentau. I'm sure there is bass. I have seen the water clear clear out there. Call me when you wanna go I'll fish it with you. |

^^^what he said. I do water quality monitoring on the Lacassine watershed and so far have noticed higher turbidity levels from around mid-February to mid-May. During the rest of the year the numbers are actually pretty low. There are fluctuations here and there due to rainfall. I'm basing this on information gathered at my most southern site on the new Hwy 14 bridge crossing the bayou.

BCDD is surrounded by marsh and Lacassine Bayou is surrounded by agriculture.

so the "BCDD" doesnt get its water from the ag fields around it? i would bet at least 90% of the water in that ditch is from the surrounding ag fields. the entire Illinois plant is drained into the BCDD. and i am willing to bet all of Sweetlake property to the west is just the same... Hints the name Drainage Ditch
