Default Recommendations for Next Year

Asides from gale force winds, I think that the tourney turned out great, and it definitely looks like this is going to be an annual charity event.

Don't want this to turn into a gripe session but please throw out any CONSTRUCTIVE recommendations you might have so that we can plan for next year. I know it's early but the one lesson I learned is that you can never be too early with regards to sponsorships so we'll get on the ball with that.

I think the plan is to have next year's event at Hebert's especially since the new restaurant/facility will be open at the launch.

So with that, let the recommendations begin.

My boss said if I would have told him a little sooner," I did tell him sooner but he had to many beers between that time frame" we can help out more. You know maybe with the cooking, baits, rods, or gift cards or whatever. All I need is time, place, and date and I'm in!

Did not like being able to sighn up in advance at first, but it did put everyone on a even keel- even though when I pulled in the cove we fished there were 3 boats already!!!

March is not bad, 24hrs before or after Saturday and that tourney weight board would have looked completely different!! That hard NW along with the temp drop locked there jaws up.... Feb-May is perfect any weekend..

If that southeast wind would have held till Sat. there would have been some 20lb+ stringers for sure. Everyone having to leave the launch at the same time puts the guys with small boats behind right off the bat. I would think a start time would put everyone on a even playing field.

I agree with this. Time of the month is good. I would change shotgun start to rule we use for CCA Trout Shoot Out. "No lines in the water before 5:30. Fishing starts at 5:30am"

Or just be more precise in your shotgun start....."Shotgun start from Calcasieu Point at 5:30 am"

The lack of an actual start time was confusing.

also....its money for a charity. Increase the entry fee. $100 a team or $30 a man, however you want to do it.

Have an individual award for big fish caught...."cough, Ross, cough"

I agree with making the entry fee more. Sell tickets for the tournament that you can get at places like what was done for the rod give away at Pete's. You can sell individual tickets for $25 a piece (or somewhere around there).

I think the $30 per boat was a good way to get everyone hooked. We would have lost a lot of boats if it was $30/person.
But now I think almost everyone would be willing to pay more cause they had such a good time, even though the fishing was not so good.
This one was a get to know everyone tournament.

Hit the nail on the head Ray. We will up the fees but we don't want it to be cost inhibitive for anyone. All of these will be get to know everyone and get to know everyone better tourneys - which in the case of a few people is quite scary

The #1 driver for this is to get everyone together for a good cause and as long as we maintain that mentality we will be in good shape.

I think ALL tourney entry money should go to the charity.

Also allow ahead of time sign-up with an easy ability to donate more if you want to. Then have an honor system on the start-time, like someone said, 5:30 or 30 minutes before sunup, allowing launching from two or maybe multiple launches. Who cares if it's all for charity and for bragging rights anyway? Have everyone check in or show up at Hebert's by 2:00 for weigh-in with the announced winners at 3 so those that launched somewhere else can gather up for awards, raffle, etc.

Maybe take part of the raffle sales or separate donations for a perpetual bragging rights trophy, sort of like the Stanley Cup. In fact, call it the SaltyCajun Cup. Something you could drink beer out of and take photos with when you have it.

Also, add redfish and flounder categories.

Just my .02 worth.
