You won't find another unit in the 500 dollar range as good as that garmin. The lowrance and humminbird in the same class is 650+

that garmin is real user friendly too, it takes about 30 minutes to learn everything about it. One of my favorite features is you can read the the tide and what level the tide is at when you are reading the tide chart. I don't even own one or know anyone that has a garmin 441 and I know how to use it. Most of my friends have Lowrance HDS5 gps which is more common.

I have the same question. As info, I presently have a Garmin 178c (gps/sounder). It is only about 3 years old and I'm having problems with the screen which "washes out" whenever the temps are high or if it stays in direct sunlight for sometime. Spoke to Garmin and they said I could send it back for repairs, but the repairs would cost almost as much as a new unit. I'd like to chg brands, but if I stay with Garmin, I can use the same connections/transducer, etc. For some reason, Cabela's doesn't sell Garmin gps anymore and I'm wondering if they had too many complaints. Would like a larger screen also, but the large chartplotters cost almost as much as a new car. Would appreciate any recommendations.

The transducer will work with the new Garmins but you need to change the power cord. For a combo you cant beat a Garmin or Lowrance.
