Default Work escorts

Was a new one for me today. We get in a van and we are escorted by several trucks. The guys riding in the back of the trucks are armed with AKs, machine guns and a rocket launcher. Makes me stop and think of why I do this for a living. Working in Nigeria for the next month. Sure counting the days. Going to be a long hitch.

I work for a consulting firm in Lafayette. We are down to 4 guys working as co-men overseas and when they are done, so am I. Insurance for hostage/kidnap coverage is crazy and getting worse, due to the threat level.

When I worked in industry, there were places I refused to go. Almost got fired one time over it.

When I worked for DoD, there was a long list of places they would not allow military personnel to go and that they strongly recommended DoD civilians avoid, including many popular vacation destinations widely regarded as safe by the general public.

In many places on earth, the government is in cahoots with the kidnappers, drug cartels, of whatever the profitable criminal enterprises happen to be. The Constitutional protections cease to apply when you step off US soil, there is no 911, you can't find a decent attorney, much less carry a firearm.
