Heard someone found dog and they refuse to give it back?!?? Sounds like a lie! Is there any truth to this?

BS, if they indeed have the dog there would be no chance in them deciding whether or not to keep him. Between owner and popo they would get their azz handed to them in that order. I will be notified if and when Eli is found and be happy to post outcome.

That's right!! I talk to owner 2-3 times per week. Many calls, etc but no dog.

Was helping my BIL's plant some rice Saturday, driving a tractor all day with radio on, 97.3 the DAWG, a spot played several times during the day of the owner thanking everyone for their support and help during the search for his dog. Very classy gesture on his part. He said he may never see Eli again, but glad he lives in a community such as ours.

He has made peace with the fact that Eli probably isn't coming back. Getting back in the saddle may take some time but he will get another dog and possibly very soon or atleast half a dog.

Some bonds with men and their dogs go beyond others. - I hope he has as much enjoyment with the next one as he did with Eli.

My next journey will be beginning in 2 weeks - meet K9 Luna!

Just pull up to any car/SUV with blue lights and a decal that reads "CAUTION - K9" and let me know how it works out for you!!

Def a "Rock" dog.
What's one of those set ya back without the kill training? They're high maintenance and not for anyone without dog experience but I would love to own one.

You definetly need to know how to work the "on/off" switch!!!

Depending on level of training, and intended use causes huge ranges in price. A dual purpose (apprehension/detection) dog is going from $8-14K with handler school. Straight detection dogs are going from $4500-6K depending on dog, with bomb detection taking top money in that category.

I was hosing out kennels the other day that had a female GS in one of the runs. Pretty dog but huge piles of $hit compared to the labs. And STINK, I couldn't train one of the young dogs on the FF table the smell was so bad. But I asked the guy how much smarter they are than labs and he said about 3x as smart. They want to please but will also outfox you quick. I thought that was pretty cool. Would love to watch a seminar one day showcasing their skills.

I found that food makes the CRAP, not the dog. When I run out in the middle of the night not remembering to get my normal food, I stop by the local Walmart and get Pedigree or Purina to last me until I make back to the feed store. Next day, I have a mess!!! I use Diamond Premium and I find it to be a great food, with less waste.

I don't agree on his statement as them being smarter than labs. I am assuming "GS" meant a German Sheperd dog in your earlier post. We are using Belgium Malinois and Dutch Sheperds, and I have seen some pretty dumb ones, just like any breed. Some pups fail, some excel - that simple. I will say that the ones that succeed in our business seem to be the ones that want to please the handler. When you have to carry extra water and have ice delivered to cool your dog down while tracking, that dog is not doing it for him - he's doing it for the handler! I have also seen some great dogs ruined by not having a "alpha" handler and could not be controlled. They will test you and you need to be prepared for them pushing the envelope. At the end of the day, it is all a game to them and they are like teenagers.
