Default Catfish slaughter

Well I just couldn't take it anymore. We finally had a good weather window. So me and some buddys decided to go do some catfishing at lake martin this weekend.Went out friday afternoon and put out a couple of trout lines and some jugs.Caught 17 friday night all together.Decided to head back saturday night and would up with another 26 and some kind of eel. That my drunken friend insisted on gutting and cooking right there on the fire.It was funny I didnt want to even put it in the boat he said "you never had barbecued eel at the korean restaurant we got some jack millers"."I really dont think its the same". But he cooked it. Wasn't bad tasted good.It actually had really white meat.

ya i think 16 of them were yellow cats. The rest were blue cats i cut the tails off and bleed them.Fillet it then give it to my grandma she loves them there not bad once you let the bleed a while the meat turns white.I actually cooked some for the head chefs at jefferson street pub and the head chef at zeas in Lafayette as well they were amazed at how good they were. Its all in how you clean them.

That eel looks to be a 3 toed amphiuma, I think there are some other local names for them down here too Did it have any legs that you noticed? They are big salamanders and get pretty dang big. Never eatenn one but I would imagine it would taste like a bullfrog

You are the first I have heard to eat one

Silly fact of the day: you have probably seen a mud snake. Some people call them a stinging snake because their tails are almost hard and pointed and sometimes when you catch them, they will kinda poke you with it. They primarily eat amphiumas which are slimy and hard to handle, so they pin them down with their tail and hold em til they can eat them

cool story I know

It would take a few "Blue Pops" for me to grill up an eel....

Nice catch however, and you guys obviously had a great time !!!

Interesting comment on how to clean a mud cat. I caught about 2 dozen of them noodling on chicot this past fall. Didn't even think about trying to bleed them.
