Tiger Shoals - Need Advice

Moving water always makes the difference. On open water it doesn't matter as much which direction. In the Marsh falling is better.

Thanks. i was just wondering if the tide at the pass moves water offshore at tiger shoals

the tide at tiger shoals should actually be moving before the tide at the pass. I would think a good 1-2 earlier due to the distance

Thanks, how does the tide offshore relate to the tide at the pass? Does the tide actually move the water offshore, or is it the ocean currents, or is it both? What is the best way to predict current offshore?

Considering that much tide difference there should be current running all day on Tiger Shoals...and hard. Might have to go to 1/2oz or a double 3/8oz rig. Current will be stronger at mid tide ranges. I find fish bite better at slack tide with slow to moderate currents running around those well heads.

Planning a trip out there Friday. I'll post the outcome. Anyone recommend any particular color/type of plastic I'm all ears.

It all depends on the color of the water. We fished some green water that wasn't very clear and caught most of our fish on Chartreuse Swimming Mullet. We also caught on lemon matrix shad and LSU Sand Eels. Some times, they wanted it worked on top, some times bounced off of the bottom, and sometimes they wanted it sitting on the bottom...

Last week LSU matrix on a double rig was deadly. Chartreuse paddle tail in any color should work. Have everyone start out with different body color, chicken on a chain, purple, motor oil and opening night would be the colors I'd start with.

One other tip, don't be afraid to put a medium size popping cork with bait 3ft under. Work the heck out of it. Seen dem trout all come to the top where you can slay them with the double rig.

Double rigs are the way to go. When I am targeting trout in open water that's my go to.

We always go early. There before daylight, Crowds are bad even during the week out there right now. Gonna have some showers developing in the afternoon tomorrow also so watch out. Live bait if you can get it can save a day out there also. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk mmm |

There are Offshore Rotory current and then there are tidal movement.. Offshore rotary currents continually move 360 deg in a 24 hr period..
If you want to LEARN about currents, get Harold Wells Fishing forecast magazine.. After using this mag in my early years.. It help be understand currents and tide movements and how it relates to fish movement and feeding.. = Become a better fisherman. |
