Default Smallies

Do you folks have them down there? I just got into fishing for them this year. I haven't caught anything of much size, but they are a blast to catch. We wade local creeks and work over any holes we find. The rockier the bottom the better.

This is one I caught on a trip out with a friend in a creek in central Indiana...

The rest were caught in a creek not far from where I live in southern Indiana...

No smallies here. I wish. People catch spots a lot and call them small mouth. One of the few I have left to cross off my bucket list.

The last picture is a dink I caught yesterday. I threw a floating Rapala into the current and let it float, the fish pounded it. It was jumping out of the water the whole way across the creek. It was quite the show.

It's a smallie, the lighting of the picture was weird. Same fish, but with the lure in its mouth...

Some of the lakes north of dallas and in the texas panhandle have been stocked with and are sustaining great populations of Small Mouth.

Not aware of any in louisiana though.

I have caught them in New Jersey. Biggest went four pounds. I caught it off a dock at the launch while my dad was getting our gear out the truck. They do put up one hell of a fight.

It's a great spot. I'd never been wading before this summer, but there is just something about fishing with your feet in the water.

I am a little concerned after finding out that there have been dogfish (bowfin/grendel) caught in that spot. It's kind of creepy knowing I've been balls deep in a creek where something with teeth is cruising around.

That is a dandy. I'm not sure what I'd do if I hooked up with a toad like that.

I found another spot not far from home. I've been able to hook up with a few smallies two of the three times I was out. Here are some more pictures...

Last night I caught a couple of good ones, the first being my personal best so far...

I think a fish with teeth would be of very little concern when wading down here compared to what else is in the water. Nice fish though. I wade for sunfish and bass a lot. Great way to spend summer weekends.
