Birthday cull hunt!
What a great trip! Just got home from a cull buck hunt w/ my wife to the Lamesa Ranch just outside of Eagle Pass, Texas. We had a great time and I love going to south Texas to see the animals, that actually come out during the daylight!
We were there to shoot 3-4 year old deer that did not meet the ranches criteria to give another year of growth. We were there w/ 2 other couples and 2 of them traded their deer for cull Gemsbuck which the ranch owner no longer wants on the ranch. We also had one of the ladies upgrade to a 145 shooter buck, but not sure on his final score just yet. It was a blast and a great birthday! |

If you think the culls are nice, go to their website and see the "big guns"!!!! Holy Crap - they were HUGE!!!
95% of the bucks were busted up from the rut which was over, but still had the bucks cutting up a little. http://www.lamesaranch.com/ |

Federal Fusion because it grouped the best out of the ones I tried. Of all the rifles I own, no two rifles shoot the same bullets, but I am anal about grouping and trying to get bullets to touch. I am actually talking about going back to hand loading again. I used to do it 10-15 years ago, then sold my stuff in the divorce. Now, with the price of ammo, I am thinking it may be cost effective to do it again. Love handloads from once fired brass since they make sub 1/2" groups at 100 yds.
