Default motor trouble

I have a 1999 yamaha 90 hp motor. This Saturday the alarm went off and the motor started running bad. It happened to me twice. The pisser was working the entire time. The first time I had been running it for awhile before it did it. The 2nd time we had been sitting for about a hour and i took off for about 400 yards and it did it again. Both times I killed the engine let it sit for just a couple minutes. When i would turn the key back on the alarm was still sounding. I cranked it and it was still running bad, but when I would give it gas the alarm went off and it started running good again. Any help would be appreciated.

i was looking at it today and I found a loose ground wire that was attached to a grease zert that had backed out a little. Could this possibly have been my problem?

Hmm not sure about a ground that would go to a grease zert....solid horn is usually a overheat alarm. When was the last time the water pump has been changed? That motor you need to change it every 3 years. If thats not the problem you might have some lazy thermostats.

I was having somewhat the same issue you're describing. I changed out my water pump but it would still do it so I changed out the thermostat and that took care of it. The thermostat was corroded pretty bad. I would check those two things first.

Forgot to put - my motor is a 2001 60
