2) State law (that would be laws made by your elected representatives, ie. representation) dictates that 10% of basic hunting license revenues are allocated "for the preservation and development of breeding grounds for migratory waterfowl" as decided by the Louisiana Wildlife and Fisheries Commission. Since at least 2002, those funds have been made available to any organization with a proposed use of those funds for those specific purposes approved by the LWF Commission. Since 2008 there have been open calls for proposals, evaluation by LDWF biological staff and associated partners, public presentation of those evaluations at Commission meetings, summaries of public comment, and public decisions rendered by the Commission for use of that money. In 2010, there was even an oversight hearing by the Senate Natural Resources Committee regarding that process.
We must be talking about 2 different Stamps.

OK ....... then what stamp were you talking about when you said:

"kinda like our stamp money going to DU", and

"But duck hunters that do not support DU are forced to buy a stamp that the proceeds are given to DU"?

I'm only aware of 2 stamps relevant to the conversation: the federal Duck Stamp and the LA state Duck Stamp. The proceeds of neither go to DU.

Your posts exhibited a fairly common misconception, which is why I took the opportunity to address it.

So you're saying that 0 federal dollars from the sale of fed duck stamps are "granted" to DU?

Federal Duck Stamp money is legally mandated to be used for habitat acquisition: land purchase or perpetual conservation easements as allocated by the Migratory Bird Conservation Commission. As of last year, the USFWS Real Estate Office still had more landowners willing to sell land and/or easements than the Duck Stamp revenue could cover into the foreseeable future.

Our money goes to DU. Whether you insulate that fact through layers of their bureaucracy or not, we pay (by law) the Feds, and they pay DU.

Show us how and where federal duck stamp money goes to DU?

NAWCA money ...... certainly; WRP ...... absolutely; but you'll need to educate me on how DU gets federal duck stamp money.

Google NAWCA and you can see for yourself the funding sources: appropriations, interest on federal aid (Pittman-Robertson) money, mig bird treaty act fines, small engine taxes from the Breaux Act, and for the last 5 years by a 1-time $100-million payment from the BP oil spill restoration funds.

Like I said, layers of bureaucracy

You can spin it any way you want but our duck stamp money goes to the Dept of Interior (the Feds), and the Feds grant DU.

You have said nothing of substance and have exposed yourself as lacking knowledge on the topic. I was hoping you had something.

The first rule of debate should be to actually know what you are talking about.

Surprised you didn't change your tune to *****ing about the NAWCA. Larry just told you where it was funded from (Pittman-Robertson, among other sources) and that those funds go to DU.

Actually, why not get straight to the point and ***** about P-R. I mean, it can't possibly be a good thing if our tax dollars are going to DU. Forget everything else it does. GET RID OF IT!!

No, I just think you're a whiny idiot. I'm not even a DU member anymore, but it doesn't change the fact that I've seen the work they've done in this state, and I've seen organizations that are far worse than DU when it comes to what they do (or don't do) for the resource they work with or the people they work for.

Plus, I just find it pathetic that you are whining about one, little stamp when there is a tax that probably puts more money in DU's hands than any duck stamp does. And that $25 that you spend on a duck stamp? That probably pales in comparison to what you pay in P-R taxes every year.

Oh, and let's not forget the broken record you sound like when you bring this dumb **** up every 3 or 4 months. Give it a rest already.

Lm@o man you really need to calm down! It's just the Internet, don't let me all the way in your head like that. You're making it way too easy for me

Oh and if I was a real idiot, I'd be happy about paying taxes on top of taxes that go to self serving private lobbyists masquerading as non-profit organizations and then brag about it on the Internet.

Anyway, since this thread was thoroughly disrailed, anyone know how the red snapper discussion went Thursday?
