Damn good motor. Buying my 4th one in a few months. They have problems just like the rest of the other brands. Lighter in weight. In my opinion, just as good, maybe better on gas. Oh, and where I work, we have 12 Optimaxes, 2 Yamahas, and 2 Suzukis. All motors range from 200 to 250 hp.

I just started running a 2011 90hp Optimax on 17' triton my dad bought. Been using it for wading. Motor is surprisingly quiet and seems to run great. Have only ran it 3 times so far. It was on 3/4 tank when I put it in the water, I haven't put any fuel in it yet. Haven't gone very far but it's still on 3/4 after 3 trips.

I run an '02 225 opti with just over 500 hrs on it. The only problem i had that wasn't my fault was a pinion gear came apart and lower unit exploded, but it was under warranty.
I run nothing but the Mercury/Quicksilver Synthetic Blend that cost $30 something per gallon. No complaints whatsoever with the outboard. Ronnie |

Sounds like most folks are happy with them.

Anything mechanical can break. There are no perfect engines.
Take care of them and run them like a normal person, and they will last longer. |

I have a 225 and a 90.
My 90 hp (tiller handle) is used for hunting and running my crab traps, the only problems I had was broke an oil line for the compressor(warrantied) and had the wiring harness short out. It is still going strong and gets great fuel mileage. My 225 gets used about 3 times a week and is great on fuel. I run it to my camp which is about a 30 minute run one way and burns about 4 gallons round trip. A fellow at another camp sold his 200 optimax to my cousin, because the run from his house to the camp he would burn about 7 gallons of gas so he bought a 200 4 stroke Yamaha to save gas. His Yamaha burns about 6 gallons for the same trip. Warren |

I Likes Mines
Got a 2011 150, I really like it, good on fuel, plenty power. I've got it on a 21' Mako CC and we cruise right at 42mph, 3/4 throttle.
