Glass Flats Boat

My first purchase will hopefully be something to replace the role of my kayak. Fished a lot of kayak tournaments the past few years of college and love the skinny water.

Can the cost of a true skinny water boat(16-18') be justified over just a aluminum jon boat here in Louisiana? I plan to MAYBE hunt a little out of this boat, but it will mainly be a redfish stalking rig.

The biggest advantage the glass will give you will be quietness compared to aluminum. BUT check out Gator Trax boats. They make a sweet red fishing rig that's gonna be cheaper than a glass boat and better for your hunting adventures.

Forgot to mention that. I would like a boat that poles decent. Probably won't be primarily poling, but it would be nice.

I'd get an older fiberglass skiff and upgrade the motor, microskiff dot com has some real nice rebuilds and a pretty busy for sale section although most are in Florida.

Has anyone ever done any bass fishing out of one of these? I've always wanted to pole in one of these for sight fishing bedding bass. My 18' ranger bass boat poles like a bathtub full of cinder blocks... And obviously they're not made for big water but how sketchy are they in some chop?

Check out skimmer skiffs or salt marsh skiff if you like fishing really skinny water on a budget. Not sure how well it would do hunting.
