Default Best Topwater Rods

Guys, I am about to pull the trigger on a new topwater rod. I would like to stay around $150. I am looking for a rod to throw a spook as far as possible, but also light enough to throw all day without getting carpal tunnel. My buddy has a 7 ft Med heavy crucial with an extra fast tip on a shimm 300 dsv and he can absolutely chunk it. He usually throws a good 30 ft more than me and his combo is light. I was looking for some opinions on a rod to match with my Shim 300dsv before I pull the trigger.

I personally like a 6'10"-7' medium with a fast tip... Im not brand loyal I just buy what feels good. Go try some out at the store. Try going to LCT or the Tackle Box and talking to the guys that work there. They will probably let you bring in your reel and see how it feels on different rods

the 7'0" med action fast tip is our best seller for topwaters like spooks etc and in that price range I'd recommend the crucial... if you want more distance you can move up in length to the 7'6 or 7'11, but the rods get heavier in the med-heavy actions.. great rods, great warranty.

and yes it's no problem, bring your reel in if you need to see if you like the balance and feel.

I have a 7'0 med action fast tip crucial with a 200 E7 on it. I love it but it does not cast as far as the med heavy. The med heavy has the beef to handle the whip better I believe. I may go up in length and go with the med heavy crucial. I was just trying to get some other comparisons to the crucial. Thanks for the input and I may take you up on that in the future.

Matthews Custom Rods for me. He just built me a 7'6 split grip micro guide spiral rod. Can't wait to throw it!! He sent me a video trying it out and teasing me a bit and it casts a mile. Thats what I wanted for in the kayak for getting in some of the ponds where reds were working in a distance and not wanting to approach them. It will be mated with a Zillion!
