Yea wait till you have zero winds and weaker tides..Jetties can turn nasty fast....they had some guys on here who sunk going to jetties in a 16ft flat not long ago....about 25 years ago my mom and dad got flipped at the jetties in a 18 ft flat by boat waves

The pass out of Rockafeller may be a safer spot to go in a 16ft for bull reds.

We've been out there a few time in a Alumacraft V 16 a few times when the preferred bay boat was not available, but I'll only do that on a day that looks pretty good and with a crew that knows where their weight needs to be and responds very well when a big wave is about to hit. The Alumacraft V 16 is much more stable than flat bottomed aluminum boats. |

I am retired, so give me a couple of dates and we can make plans. Weekdays would be better.

My uncle has been sunk there before also. Makes for a very entertaining story though!!! Monday seems like a good day to make a good sinking story to be told around the fire..

Those dummies were in the gulf at an old rig when they were sunk.

I go often in my 16/48. Very calm days

Dont be fooled thinking a light north wind will make it calm either. Went last monday with light north wind but tide was coming in. There was 3' rollers just south of the washout.

Good point, sometimes it takes a couple of days for the big rollers to quiet down after a stiff south wind. Learned that the hard way.

Does anyone know if the boat launch on west side of ship channel (next to ferry) open yet ? I went last year and couldn't launch there. Don't know why it was closed

Thanks man. That's a relief when I come from Holly Beach not having to get on the ferry to launch. I would waste at least 30 minutes having to go launch on the Cameron side
