Default Want a Spinning Reel

I've got one spinning rod that I dedicate as a popping cork rod. My son just destroyed the reel that was on it, so I need to get a new one. I don't want to spend a fortune and the rod will mostly be used for just specks and reds. Anybody have any recommendations on a good reel for a decent price? I would also be interested in a good used reel if someone has a nice one that is laying around that they don't use. Let me know what you have.

go with the shimano sahara they are cheap and hold up good i buy them for my wife she has dropped them in the water i never oil them i only rinse em and they still work good and smoth . when i do fish with a cork which is very seldom i use a penn slammer it is a bit heavy but its a tank and if you happen to hook a bull red it is a winch no screwing around with em just haul em in and get back to the trout!

It's an Abu Garcia Cardinal on a Berkley Lightning rod. Good lil combo. $54.99 at Academy. Doesn't hold up as well as the Shimano Symetre or the Sahara but none the less, you can take hold of a red pretty good with this combo.

Thats who i thought made the Cardinal... I have one also collecting dust in my shop. I like the reel tho. Its a smaller one that i use to catch bream for catfish bait..

Saltwater fisherman who know how to cast a reel use baitcast reels--- I use Shimano Curado 200E7 or the Shimano Citica 200E. My son uses a spinning reel only becasue he is 9 years old. When I see an adult using a spinning reel 9 out of 10 times is because they use live bait even during the winter months...Go Figure... The two go together---live bait-spinning reels!LOL!
