Default Big lake help

Hey guys I'm new to fishing big lake and still learning the lake. I see there is a canal in between the ship channel and the lake. Is it safe to pass thru it an also with all the points and islands does it hold fish? Thanks

It is called the Texaco Cut. Must be careful where you pass. Very shallow. There are no markers.

High tide no worries. Low tide I kick up mud on occasion. Have caught reds on the lake side there before. Never really fish that spot though.

Don't really have to use it to go around if that is what you are asking. The others are dead on about running it though.

Texco is 8-10ft deep as long as you hit it straight in middle , it's only shallow along the sides

If you are entering the cut from the ship channel I would play it safe and hit the cut at a 90 deg angle from the ship channel itself, that flat on the south side of the cut can get shallow. Once you are through it and into the lake make sure you're past all of the PVC pipes before you turn either direction in the lake. Especially if the tide is out.

You can fish there but on busy days I wouldn't bother. There's a lot of traffic that runs through there. As Waltrip said, its about 8 ft deep in the middle so stay in the middle well before you get to the cut and after you get out of it and you should be fine.
