Default Vermilion Bay Duck Hunting

I have not had the opportunity to make any fishing trips this winter out of the point but last year I would always come across flocks of ducks from Blue Point all the way to the Trash Pile. Just wondering if anyone hunts the open public waters of the bay from Blue Point to the Trash Pile to the Commercial Canal to the Avery Canal to the Boston Canal?

I always wonder the same thing. I bet you could cut a few down early in the mornings. But I'd feel like a doopty doo when the fisherman passed by me shaking their heads. LOL

The only ducks that I hunt are wood ducks at my lease which is off of Bayou Tortue in St. Martin Parish. I am not at all familiar with identifying ducks......heck those ducks I see in the bay could be the coots everyone is always talking about.

it takes a good setup to do it, but yeah, a man can shoot ducks in the middle of the bay.
it would be more than i could stand to go thru several hours of putting out my decoys and getting my blind just right, only to have a family of dipsheets come throw mirrolures at my decoys and tangle them up. AND WE BOTH KNOW THIS WOULD HAPPEN, quick!!!!!!!!!!!!! lol

Most of those ducks are probably divers.

Actually lots of pins and Greys will raft in huge numbers on the bay. I used to have a blind on a lake about 200 yards off the bay shore and lots of birds would come from the bay some mornings. 1 week when my mud boat was down we parked my boat on the bay shore and walked in. When we would leave we would jump up big rafts of birds.

I bet the area around little bay would be decent duck hunting. Not sure if the public is allowed to hunt the area though.

That would be where I would start. Might be shallow enough by the new terraces

Look up state wildlife refuge. On the PDF map they show what's private and public in little bay. I can tell you anything east of there from lil bay to Avery island is private.
