Easiest way to make a duck hole?

I wanted to see what's the best way to open up a hole in a grown up marsh. I have a good mud boat in the works. Ive been told the easiest way to do it is spray and come back a week or 10 days later cut it, repeat until your happy with it. I know this is alot of work just lookin for any tips to make this easier, I can't burn it.

If there is enough water, just open it up with the mud boat.

2-4d is the tits. We had the same thing happen to us over the summer a few yrs bak and sprayed what we could get to and just let it sit for two weeks come back and most of it start to deteriorate and the rest we cleaned up with with boat and potato rakes. Yes hard work but when 10-15 mallards are trying to get in there at day break it's worth the blood sweat and tears. Anyone on this site can vouch for me on that

Herbicide will surely work, depending on the size of the hole you wanna make you can get some black plastic or tarps and stake it down for a week at a time and you will have ZERO vegetation there when you pick it up, this will solar kill your vegetation down to the roots. I am serious too

I don't know for sure, it may if the water is shallow enough to really heat up. It would block the sunlight so it probably would. Would be worth trying if you have a little piece thats easy to get to and just try it out

Hagen, with our landscaping service we've been using a mix called eraser.

Also ranger pro works good. Just mix a little strong and it will knock down the hycanth

the chemical called polaris works wonders on aquatic weeds. Just cant get it anywhere though.hehehe The 2-4 d works really well, though. We spray quite a few acres of swampland every year to get rid of those hyacinths in our swamp.

Glyphosate will kill hyacinth easily, and brands are approved for aquatic use. The only thing is that when it dies and starts to decay, the plant removes oxygen from the water which will cause a fish kill if you have fish in there.

There is a machine that will remove flotant, hyacinth, and other weeds. There was a vendor at the Lafayette Outdoor Expo that performs this, think it was Big Woods Preserve or something like that. They will remove the floating vegetation and place it on the banks to dry out, then you just control it on your own once it starts to come back.

i dont know if you have read any of my other posts but i run a poor boy operation lol but i do appreciate all the information day 1 on the mud boat operation went good i dont think it will be very expensive to get it going i have access to a good sprayer that will spray 20 to 30 feet i doubt ill have the hole in good shape for this year but we will see. i did see some kind of rake that looked like worked like a box blade on a tractor and it seemed like it would be the ticket. thanks for all the input

the EASIEST way is to call Crane Bros. and have the bring in a machine.....might be expensive, but it would be easy...

Ranger and eraser are both 41% but I sprayed eraser on a ditch at beginning of june. It is still dead. It had hycanth, and other weeds mixed in. It is knocked dead.

Duck weed to us is the small speckle green stuff.
I call hycanth, water hycanth. Or hydrilla.

A lot of people on the eastern side of the state call them "lillies". They aren't lily pads though.

They are green plants that grow on the water surface. You see them in Henderson when going over the bridge

They grow Lil purple sprouts? I got a **** ton of them things I needa get rid of they keep multiplying... Will all these chemicals poison the water? There's so much fresh water in our spot in GC everything is green and vegetation is right. Just too mAny Lillie's all over. Going spray this weekend. The spot is finally right for the first time since Rita. Just hope the ground don't soak up all the water before teal

Yea that's duckweed to me as well just didn't know the scientific name lol just called em lillies
