Default Houston River 7/31

Took my oldest for a quick early morning trip. We kept 16 sacs, 4 bass, 3 goggle eyes, and 3 bream. We caught a lot of small fish today that we had to throw back. Same pattern today. 18 to 24in in 20 fow. We made the rounds picking up 2 or 3 at each lay down per pass. Chase had a blast. He kept up and almost out fished me. He lost a big one right next to the boat. He tried to lift it out the water before I could say let me get the net. The look on his face was worth a thousand words. I tried a black and chartreuse curly tail on a small beetle spin and caught 2. Shiners were still king though. Water was back up to about normal height. Its still best when falling. I need to start looking at the tide charts for the Calcasieu and plan my trips with the tide. Wasn't the best trip with numbers but best with the company. We spent the trip talking of past trips we made when he was young. It felt good to know he remembers the days fishing in a canoe at Sam Houston State Park. He was 8 then and told me details of those trips. It doesn't get any better!

Thanks guys, for me there is nothing better. I would appreciate it if anyone has a secrete to catching the larger sacs. I cant seem to catch any over 12in. The majority are 8 to 10in. I know there has to be some big ones there. I am about to head to Cormier's and pick up a few dozen shiners for this afternoon. My youngest son is spending the weekend with me. Looks like more memories are about to be in the making.
