FlagUS Great Fishing On THe DU!

Busting Up The Bronzebacks!

We enjoyed an incredible 2 days of catching reds and trout on Thursday & Friday, Jan. 3 & 4. We rung in the new year in the same fashion that we ended 2012. It was mostly a redfish party with water temps in the 40's both days. Capt. Travis Lovell had a 12 man crew roll in to the Lakehouse for 2 days of incredible fishing! They enjoyed their 3 night stay on the bayou and were very excited about catching so may fish. Thursday morning we didn't leave the dock until 9:30 and arrived back at the Lakehouse around 2 pm loaded down with reds. Capts Travis and Brady Giroir along with myself slammed the reds catching an easy 100 fish and brought back 75 total between all 3 boats. We had a small mess of trout and an additional 30 sheeps for lagniappe. On Friday we left the Lakehouse at 7:30 and everyone whacked the fish catching another 75 reds and 20-25 trout. Every fish both days were caught on bunker and blueback swim baits reeling with a very slow drag along the bottom. Water levels were very low both days and you really had to pay attention to where you were running. I was running on step in one area and noticed 2 crab cages dead ahead with half of them exposed out the water. Quickly hit the jack plate up to 4 and trimmed up as I passed them and still don't know how I made it through to deeper water. Anyway, everyone in the group caught a ton of fish and the youngsters did just fine handling the cold weather. Just another great trip on the DU!!
