Default New Boat.

This what my dad and myself has been doing the past 4 weekends. I bought the boat and we used my dads motor and trailer. We had to install everything. It's been fun doing the project with my dad but we are both tired. It's a 1848 Southfork with a tunnel. Thanks to Darrell at Jerry's Marine for the great service. That thing oughtta get the job done, nothin like a new boat! On another note...treated lumber is bad for aluminum, the chemicals will eventually begin to eat at it. I see your bunks look like they have no carpet and the floor looks bare also...just trying to help. If you plan on painting that console, make sure you use a self etching primer over the bare metal, then you can come back with paint or normal primer, the paint will need something to grab onto (even if you scuff it up first)

Nice boat, Enjoy it!

We ended up carpeting the bunkers. I used an self etching primer on the console. Today we was cutting holes in the console for the tach and switch panel. We used tape to protect the paint. When we pulled the tape off the paint came with it. :-( I've heard you also suppose to wash the aluminum down with white vinegar. I think I'll just let someone else paint it. It's like deja vu all over again.

I used the green net dip on my plywood.
It is the green dip they use on shrimp nets.
It works pretty dang good.

yea aluminum is a pita to paint, did you do a heavy coat of the etch primer? You are supposed to do a fine mist coat just enough to say you put some on there...Jerrys may be able to take care of that for you, I'm sure they got some touchup paint around..

haha yea...you may try another shot at it. I learned from this mistake when I primed my car a long time ago...even on steel, if you put too much etch primer it will peel right off.

I wasn't happy when that paint just peeled off. I'm gonna have to redo it.

From a Shrimper in Cameron. Not sure if there are any places in Lake Charles.
There is a place called the Fishnet Company in Jonesville, La.
They may have some. Get the green, not the black.

Just go to the docks in cameron with a couple beers in your hand and go talk to some commercial shrimper/fisherman they will help you out (i have a contact but it would take a few days)...or you could coat it in epoxy and paint over it, it would last many many years that way

Best factory built tunnel out there....nice boat would love to have another tunnel having a hard time finding a good carb 2 smoker run. Four strokes or direct injection 2 strokes in the mud spells big trouble. Those 3 cyl mercs are the best on a tunnel. I know someone with a 60 merc on a 1842 southfork that will run anywhere a mud motor will.

The can that the primer was in.....did it have a label? If so, was there any writing on that label? Maybe something about not applying too heavy?
