well didnt get home from work till midnight last night but dug these pics up, on the back side i built a door that hinges down the width of the house that allows you to get to the laying boxes to get the eggs. covered the windows on the side with chicken wire and wrapped the bottom of the kennel with chicken wire. We don't have snake or varmit issues where I'm at. I had 2 roosters and 3 hens but the roosters got out one night from me not shutting the gate all the way and they decided to spur me while I was trying to get them at 11 at night after coming home from going out to eat so I left them out over night and the neighbors dog got em.

The tractors are nice for the gardens, fertilize and feed all at once

mine stays in one place but the tractors are made to move around, most people that made them moved them down the rows of there garden daily slowly fertilizing the whole garden while keeping the bugs and weeds out

So if I have a graden, which I do its about 20'x30' It's 5 rows wide by about 20' long. Can I build a pen around it and put a few chickens in there to keep the bugs out, I thought they would eat the plants.

I think they say 3-4 sq ft per chicken, the chickens will eat your veggies if they can get to em, mine get all the fruit that bugs get to

I been thinking bout making me a little chicken tractor. The insurance company folks just informed me if I don't get rid of the trampoline I will have to come up with another $1800 a year....... So heres my plan. I will take the jumping part off the trampoline and wrap the frame with chicken wire and put a coop in it........ Thoughts?

Is it the style frame with the wheels on one side? If so it'd be good for around the yard but not the garden obviously. Also they could jump/fly out possibly, also would make for easy prey for hawks if that would be a problem in your area. Remember that roosters aren't needed for eggs, they only fertilize the eggs if you're wanting to hatch some out.

It doesn't have the wheels but I could put some. I move it whenever i cut the grass without any wheels. I was going to stretch 2 pieces of cable across the top for support and put the wire over the top.

I looked at some chicken coop plans on line and they seem easy enough to build, I may give this a go.

Any suggestions for a good laying breed for the Houma area?
