They were cut up by as they called it "corol" and afraid of sharks getting them. They walked 3 miles to a dollar store for dry clothes and they had to pack the gas tank too. Needless to say my sister is fuming. They lost everything.

I am not an expert.....but shouldn't the crew boat be held responsible for their wave flipping the boat?

Do they know what boat caused this accident? Any witnesses.....probably not if they had to do some walking to get dry clothes. Did they call the Coast Guard to report the accident?

I am glad they got out of this "OK".

At least they lived to tell thier tale, sounds like this could have ended up allot worse...

I won't comment on why they decided to do what they did, but damn !!!

I am in a smaller rig now and some days you just need to stay home, drink some beers and throw a steak on the pit ...

Fastmerc, to answer your original question, I would run a similar rig back in High School (15' Monark with 25 Mariner) from Bayou Black (Terrebonne Parish) to Willow/Myrtle Bayou and occasionally out to Halters Island on a 6 gallon tank with a smaller 1.5 gallon "reserve" tank on board... It was a 50-60 min ride to our camp @ around 3/4 throttle, which was probably around 20-25 mph... 210 to the jetties and back is probably do-able on a nice day with 6 gallons, if you keep your foot out of the throttle....

Well I would not want to go in front of a Judge if I was in that boat that flipped..

Kind of what the Judge would say:

Son you was where on what day???? I was told the winds were 15-20mph and you ran from Lake Charles to the Cameron with one take of gas in a 15ft Flat Aluminum boat. And do you know that when the winds are blowing 20mph from one direction and the tide comes from the other that will cause huge ripping waves and chop in the channel?
In the case of the run a way bandits..... I only have words of wisdom to give you

I could be wrong but I think homeowners insurance covers you if it was just a 25 hp motor. Might get something back

Wrong, only for boaters liability but not personal property until deductible is satisfied.

Ratdog would have just rode one of the big reds up to Spicers and back to get some fuel.

Ok got the real story this morning. They were out by a abandon rig a swell washed them and gear out of the boat. The motor went under water and the boat was at the rail in the water. They climbed on the rig found some old rope and tied the boat to the rig. Every time a swell would come by they would tighten the rope until it was high enough to bail the water out. The only thing they had was a battery trey to use. They finally bailed the water out and had a 1/4 a tank of gas to get back if the boat started. Well the boat started up but they had huge swells to go against to get back to the jetties. They got back to somewhat protected waters put the boat on the bank. Thats when they walked to the dollar store. Keep in mind they put in at THE 2-10 BRIDGE. And yes they were scared of sharks.
