Default Fishing help @ Maurepas Swamp

We go to Maurepas Swamp, I am talking about the swamp between Pontchartrain and Maurepas, when we can't get our crab fix from Grand Isle. We usually do pretty good with crabs getting medium sized full crabs but we have never had any luck fishing.

What should I be targeting in this area and what are some good lures/baits to use. There is usually plenty of cover, fallen trees, and typical south Louisiana swamp conditions. Any insight will be appreciated, otherwise we will go collect our 10 dozen crabs and call it a day.

Thanks,

Nick

Well it looks like what I am referring to as maurepas swamp is not actually the " Maurepas Swamp".

The area I am talking about is near Laplace, is brackish water. It's not part of either lake but I am pretty sure the two are connected by it.

Manchac it sounds like or Ruddock.
Fishing is tough there. Most folks fish the bridges for catfish or croaker.
Many have caught trout there in the pounding hot summer.

Ok, I looked at a map, it looks like a canal or channel under 55. I am ok if we can't fish it, the main purpose is to go get some crabs, but if it's possible to get fish, especilly trout, I want em.

We are currently boatless, and with the current situation in the gulf, I think I am going to remain boatless for another year, so banks and bridges for me. I am also open to suggestions for better places to crab and fish, the closer to br the better.

Thanks

I was thinking Dudleys or simular, should be able to get variety on them, but really I'll try anything once, and if it works I'll swear by it.

honestly without a boat its gonna be hard to get on a trout bite over there. you may be able to get on some catfish and other freshwater right there. Alot of people catfish right there in the pass and do pretty well. I've never done it personally though

Have caught some really good bass around Ruddock area. Any of the tournaments out of Hill top I would run to Ruddock or Ticfaw. A buddy of mine won the St. Judes in Ruddock several years back. When the duck seed starts getting thick we'd fish a frog or pitch a senko in the open pockets in the duck seed. Have seen people catching bream around that area also.

you are talking about the Ruddock area and its freshwater. Bass on creature baits or bream with crickets usually do the trick

I fished this area every weekend during last summer, it's manchac pass and I caught plenty of catfish in the south pass by using cut mullet that I caught using a cast net, Shrimp works too. I carolina rig it and catch them on the bottom by the piers. you can catch bass too in the ruddock canals. usually in late october the trout move in and you can catch them when the tide is falling just by anchoring in lake p where the south pass joins in to the lake. Its no secret and you will not be the only person out there when the trout are there.

I call them lost trout. usually the salinity isn't that great during the summer and there is too much fresh water going into the west side of lake P. I caught a few trout by the power lines in the lake but there usually too small to keep.
