Well Buddy, let me put it to you this way. This week the Bay is usually on fire. I took the week off to fish and i am leaving for the camp in the morning.
I spent the day Monday scouting, water was dirty and fresh everywhere. found some clearer water in shark bayou and the depthfinder was lit up with fish in the holes. After throwing the tacklebox at em, i threw the cast net. pulled up big mullet and and shad. Checked other canals, etc. nothing but bait in the holes. Ran to Avery and it didnt have enough bait to warrant a cast. The winds over the last few days would not allow the water to clear. if you go it would be tough. the only advice i could give would be fish for reds and cats around the canals in Patout or any main drains. Try and catch some mullet. it tends to work better in muddy water than shrimp. |

I can't remember every seeing it as dirty as it is right now. I drove around it yesterday in disbelief. Little Bay, Fearman, Prien, Hell Hole, SW Pass, Tete Butte, Pavy, Bayou Michael, The Cove, The Trash Pile, The Delcambre Canal, couldn't find anything I'd consider fishable much less fishy. I got one bite and I think I bumped into a fish.

I figured it would be bad but not that bad. I was hoping it would clear up by Friday but that is not likely to happen. It looks like i will be sleeping in on Friday. Not worth the gas. Thanks for the post.

River on a rise now at 7.8ft. East winds will blow that water into Bay. Salinity level falling like a rock....might be over in da bay! Go east; Lake de Cade, lake Mechant until late January then go west to BL in Feb and March. |

I caught a nice mess of reds and flounder today with a few trout mixed inImageUploadedByTapatalk1448668598.430631.jpg
Had to work for them and burned some gas but they're still some fish floating around out there. Wouldn't wave the white flag just yet. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

I hate to say it but the trout are just about over, with all the rain, rising river and strong easterly winds... its a short season this year. hopefully I'm wrong but it was fun while it lasted...

You guys give up easy, the water temp was 72 today, the fish are still there. They may not be having an orgy in the cove but they are there. I am not complaining, I love being the only truck in the parking lot and only boat on the water not picking up crab cages. The trout will continue to show up throughout the winter especially if it stays as warm as it has been. If we get 3 days of north wind without a downpour they will start showing up on the usually places on the north shore. The redfish are ridiculous right now and the flounder bite is as good as I have seen it. If its taken this long for the flounder to move out the trout are still coming in. Thats just my 2cents.
