Default cat island permit?

I was looking into hunting cat island NWR. I read where it says you have to have a signed permit($15) on you at all times. Now I was under the impression that my lifetime license covers everything I need for hunting except a duck stamp. soo my question is, is this permit the same as my WMA permit or is this something I've got to get in addition to may license and stamp?

my guess is it is a separate permit because it is federal land not state land

The lifetime license does not cover special permits like that.

Correct, Cat Island is an NWR not a WMA you will need to buy the permit

The largest cypress tree in the US is there also

We have 80 acres in Cat Island been duck and deer hunting since I was a kid. Got about a 15-20 acre cypress lake in the middle where we duck hunt. Just started going through the refuge to get there last few years. Cuts the bike ride in half. Sure is pretty in there. Saw some good buck sign on our 80 acres other day when I went duck hunting. And yes, you have to buy that permit even though you have lifetime, and it's archery only but I am sure you knew that.

Be careful cuz you might have to possess the permit even though you are scouting... Kinda like Indian bayou..

I went weekend before last and there was wood ducks everywhere. First time there was enough water to hunt it. 2 mallards circling at first light so I let the woodies land all around me. They didn't come. Only 2 big ducks I saw. Stayed till 10am cause they usually fly late. Could have shot 50 wood ducks.
