Default If you had the option

Just wondering, if you had the option to either
1.) Go to a college, get hands on in your work field, get your foot in the door, and work the job while in school.

Or

2.) Go to a school, tournament fish for them while you have the opportunity, get a degree similar to the other school, but without the hands on. Have potential to go further in the fishing world Aswell (qualifying etc)

Just wondering which you'd do. I'm about as stumped as stumped gets. Way too many factors making me run circles deciding. Just want to hear some input

Edit-- both options are completely living on own, financially. Choice 1 would allow a paying job that is far superior to choice 2s job.

Well honestly, while the whole fishing thing sounds good, choice 1 is better overall. Get the education, get the job and fish for fun. Only my opinion and not everyone would agree. Just think long term.

I fish for the LSU kayak club and the tournaments are awesome. Really laid back compared to the bass club's tournaments. You're only in college once. I'm able to work on the side though too, and I have some good connections for jobs after college sooo...

Don't turn something you love doing into a job...as much as people say if you love your job u never work a day in your life..is bs, unless you learn to love your job after the fact. I turned a hobby into a career and regret it.

Make the education part now. If you go into "big money" now, you'll have no more in 5 years then you have now. Get educated, land that good job and, live easier than those of us who were going to go to school eventually!

Go to school at whatever place will give you the best job opportunities . It sounds like number one will do that for two reasons: First, it is the exact career field you want to pursue; second, it will allow you to work in the field and gain some experience. Gaining the experience is important and will put you a step ahead of those folks graduating without experience. Your experience earned in school may very well increase your salary of your full-time job upon graduation. Lastly, and I think most importantly, your ability to work while you are in school will allow you to develop all the personal relationships with folks in the industry and we all know that it's not what you know, but who you know and that seems especially true with offshore work.

I went to school, had no experience when I graduated, and I have a good job now. Quit trying to short change your college and enjoy it. The work/money will come.

If you get a job offshore, you get a lot more fishing time in after school.

Most big companies don't hire off the street anymore.

They are hiring straight out of colleges and trade schools.
