2 huge bucks fight to death
Here are some pics of 2 brutes which were fighting for dominance and the bigger of the 2 lost the battle. My brother works as a wildlife officer who handles nuisance and injured animals for the province, yes the ideal job. He was called out by a local farmer who found these 2 bucks tangled together with 1 of them dead and the other on the verge of dying. He had to dart the 1 which was still alive (he is kneeling beside it) and cut the antlers in order to unsnarl them. The deer could not get up even after he came too as he was too spent. In Nova Scotia, Canada we are not allowed to interfere with wildlife and must allow nature to takes its course. My brother had to leave the buck where it was and hope it could get enough energy to survive. The happy ending was when he went back the next day, the buck was gone with evidence he had walked away ok. It is a tragic story for the bigger buck which did not survive the fight as it was a great loss to the gene pool in that area. Here are the pics they took while rescuing the bucks... www.blackbearoutfitters.caCheers and safe hunting Canadian Black Bear Outfitters |

Hell no. Ill be honest, i would have killed the one that was still alive and mounted them together like they were still fighiting. That would make an awesome mount. |

Our gov't would not allow it to be given away and it was up to the farmer whether he wanted to try it or not. Nobody knew how long it had been dead and most likely the meat would have been tainted. The farmer did not want it, even for the mount, and the last I heard he buried it.

Goosepond, you got that right, he would definitely be a keeper during open season if I had of got my sights on him. Would have been a great mount for sure!!

The one they darted and unsnarled was still alive; therefore, we are required to do what we can to give it a chance at survival. Once it is given the shot to get up on its own, we have to let nature take its course. There wasn't anything else they could have done. It may not make sense but what gov't agency makes sense when it comes to "some" wildlife management programs. Sometimes it makes sense but other times, like this, it "appears" like it doesn't
