Back in the '70's, I knew a guy that went red fishing with several other people in 2 boats in January. It was a very cold day and there was light snow [yes, in south LA].

They had gotten out of the boats and walked about 1/4 mile to fish. By the end of the day, they made 2 trips to drag out the reds. One guy had so much weight in his boat that he could not get is boat up on plan when they left.

He had to go back the next morning to get the remaining fish. I think they had over a 100 fish.

Back in the day when the limit was 50 in the aggregate. We'd caught over 100 reds in several dead-end canals at the Rock... We would fill up 200 qt. Igloos. Drum was the same way..I'm talking about when It got Real cold.. Water temps in the 40's. Air temps inthe low 30's and high 20's... Guides on rods would form ice..
