Default Rock and Roll 1/24/16

Launched out of Rollover today. Only one other boat in the parking lot. ESE Wind was 2X's faster than predicted, beach water mucho muddy . Ran the beach and found a couple protected areas w/ fair water. Caught 5-18"-24" Puppies and 2 nice Reds(24" and 27"). Got a new recipe utilizing pineapples, so they will all taste delicious.

Nice bag! Is the fishing in the rollover canal ever good and is the run to the beach to far to try in a 18 gator tail CC 36 hp?

Kenn- The run to the gulf is about 5-7 miles. The first straight away heading south from the Launch can be good- very good...sometimes for Reds and Specs. Those times would be Oct/Nov in the Fall and March/April in the Spring. I've mostly fished with live bait that I catch, but some do well with plastics.

As far as running the beach, I would be hesitant to recommend that. It can be challenging at best sometimes.

Assuming ur a Stand-up guy, I've attached the Recipe. Now remember, once you try it on Big Redfish or Black Drum, you'll be obligated 2 me. "Thank you, you are.. ". Maybe a zero expense, guaranteed Spec Trout fishing trip would cover everything .

Double up on everything that mentions pineapple. Can't over-do the pineapple.

1-28-16 update: Same as last trip, Reds and Blacks. Had to work hard and they didn't start biting till the tide starting moving around 3:00 PM. I think I was the only one fishing there today.

Default crabs at the Rock

Hit the Rock Monday afternoon trying to take advantage of the warm weather thinking Mr. Crab might have come out of his hole where he's been all winter. Conclusion: some were out and some weren't. Did "so so", but better than nothing and except for one other boat, I had the whole place to myself. Caught most nice ones at the cement weir and many small ones at the Mud Hole. Guess it's gonna take a longer warm spell for them to get moving, but the ones I caught sure tasted good.

Thanks Cajun Bill. Any fish? Based on your report I may try in a few days myself. Wish Rock would hurry up and open up some of the closed Dec-March areas. Mr. Rockefeller's original intent was to cater to Ducks, not "Senior Flatulator" fisherman, so I guess we can't blame Obama for dat !!

Didn't fish, spent all my time trying to find Mr. Crab and got back to the landing right at legal sunrise so I was beat feeting it to get on the road before LDWF showed up.

2/5/16 Update. I was the only one fishing today out of Rollover after noon. There was 1 other boat in the morning but they quit because of a slow crab bite, and they were cold.

Today....I caught 2 big Reds and about 3 dozen of medium --> smallish crabs. Caught the crabs on ducks guts and the Reds on crawfish. Over all it was tuff, muddy water and the fish never turned on. I had to finesse the crawfish on the bottom to convince the 2 Reds to bite. Should have caught more but..... it wasn't for lack of trying.
