Sherburne is public access very close, And if you're not opposed to going deep in the woods away from folks you can make out pretty good.

You may want to look in to getting a hunters safty card also. I think you still need it even tho you have Army training.

Most anything between 28 cal./ 7mm - 30 cal. Really don't need the magnums for deer, unless you just want to pay more. 7-08, 308, 30-06. I hunted with a 7mag for years , Hunt with 308 mostly now, it kills them just as dead.

I use a Remington Model 70 .270. Shot deer from 30 yards to 130 yards and they drop either way.

Ok get a Remington model 700- 270. Great gun and effective. Then get a good climbing stand. You can start with one from Walmart. Next a place to hunt. Jackson Bienville is a reserve up in north la and it's almost a sure thing to kill a deer there.

I shoot a 7mm WSM. It's over kill for deer IMO but I don't like tracking them after I shoot them.

Tikka t3 lite 270 wsm best bang for your buck . I've killed deer with it, exotics , I'm bringing it to Africa with me in 2 weeks . Lot of knock down power and very flat shooting round

If you are new to the sport go ahead ang get ya a good ole 30-30 marlin. can not go wrong there. the 30-30 has killed more deer then all the rest. The bullets are cheap and now day with the new rounds you can shoot out to 200 yards with it.

^ great advice! The sportsman has great info and it's up to date with the time of year/month it is published. I have a collection from years past and use them as sort of a reference if I want to try something new.
