Default Etec 250 vs Etec 225 H.O.

Guys need help before I pull the trigger on this. I'm not really sure what the H.O. series is all about, but I need to choose between a 250 or the 225 H.O. I will be repowering my Bluewave 2200 Purebay here in the very near future. Just wonder what you you guys that may know what may be the better route to go!

Well since neither one of those is an option. I have the Etec 175 on right now and it has been the best performing motor I have ever had on a boat. I really dont want this to become a Ford vs Chevy vs Dodge type of debate. Just if anyone has run these motors or know anything about them, I would like some input.

I was originally going to put the 250 SHO on before I bought the boat, but after running the Etec that came on it, I really have gotten to like it.

You have a nice looking boat! For what it's worth, I would chose the H.O. over the 250. Etec performance report list a purebay 2200 w/ 225 etec running 63.7mph; MPG was about 4mph at crusing speed.

I see your a Dolphins fan!!! we are now automatically friends!!! lol
If I can find a 250 HO, I may go that route. I was just unsure if I could mount up a 250 HO since my boat is rated for 250 hp max.

just my 2 cents but why would you not go with a Suzuki or 4 stroke unless you don't have a close dealer? The two stroke ETEC (any 2 stroke) will reduce resale if that is important to you. The Zuke has a 6 year warranty, Etec is 5, and you can now get them in white. I have the 24 BW purebay with the 300 Zuke on it. Bought it new 2008 and it has never been to the shop for anything. Had twin 2005 Zuke 250's on my offshore boat and sold it last July. Bought them new as well and they too never went to the shop.

Fair question......I just really have gotten to like the Etec since I have had it on this boat. I love the fact that it doesnt have to have alot of maintenance and also the performance and reliability of the motor is awesome! The reason I have kinda have stayed away from the 4-strokes was weight and hole shot.

Changing a little oil and a filter once or twice a year is cheaper than buying two-stroke oil. Hole shot on my 4-stroke is great , just as good or better than any two stroke I have owned. The quietness of the motor alone is almost worth it and the weight is not that much difference.

Etecs are pretty quiet (for a 2 stroke), they have a 6 year warranty (not 5) and the Hole-Shot is awesome.
