Fished about two hours under the lights on the Houma Ship Channel last night and about the same this AM. Totaled 24 13-15 inch trout, with dozens more undersized and marginal keepers released.
Stained water in both spots, shrimp were popping last night, but low vis made it hard for the fish to find the bait. Tallied 11 good keepers on a chartreuse sparkle beetle lip hooked on a small kahle hook weightless, twitching it from the dark to the light.
This morning found a few small ones at a November spot, then moved a few miles. Slick calm and not much activity and only 6 inches or so of visibility, but just enough current to make a slow drift. Got on a few good runs to put another 9 in the box before the west wind kicked up enough to kill my current. Ran to another spot where the tide was still losing and found four more eaters.
All fish on the same sparkle beetle on a 1/8 oz jighead under a cork. Tried tight lining a jig and topwater, no bites except on the cork. Fish had to be made aware of the bait I guess.
Great time and some good therapy.
