Default Big Lake Fat Trout

This gal must not have any problem finding plenty of food to eat. When she was going into the net...... I was thinking could it be 7 or 8 lbs.

Fishing report..... 6-20-12

My shrimp supply is getting a little low, so when I saw the report that the Grand bayou boat bay was open I wanted to see if I could catch some shrimp.

The shrimping was slow.....2 to 5 shrimp per cast with maybe 2 of them big enough to eat. The shrimp were anywhere from 100 count up to a few 20 count. The average of the ~ 2 lbs that I kept was about 35 count after using the smaller shrimp for bait. I stopped throwing after about 1.5 hours.

Crabbing.... was very good. Catching 2 or 3 almost every time using trout heads for bait on 2 or 3 lines. I only kept 6"+ size and had my 5 dozen in ~ 1.5 hours.

The trout in the picture was the only legal fish that I caught. Lake water was very high, about 12" to 15" above normal. This made the water really pouring into the marsh at the boat bay. The 15"+ "drop" going thru the weir boat bay, and the very fast current made for a good show watching boats attemping to get out of the marsh. It took several boats 3 or 4 attemps before they got back through the weir.

The water from Hebert's down to the south end of the lake all looked very good. There were ~ 15 boats fishing along the east bank.

By the time I headed back out into the lake, the winds had picked up to 10-14 mph and the lake was a little ruff. I tried a few spot with no luck. I did hook a "trophy" gafftop but it got off while I was getting my camera out.
