Default Too rough to get out

I was deck handing for one eye Ed again today. We were in a 40 yellowfin today.

The forecast was for 1-2 foot seas. The way the wind was inside yesterday I had my doubts. Once we hit the gulf I knew they lied again. The seas were to be building all day long. Our target was 35 miles out but it took about 2 miles of that direction to make us change course. It was already uncomfortable and the day just started. We found a shrimp boat. This boat had fish on it a few days ago but it was in a different area and the water was not as clean as desired. Maybe the fish followed it so we started fishing it.

Yep the fish did follow it. The problem was they were just sharks and a lot of them. By 9:00 it was evident this day was not happening. We were not far from 2 rigs that are my go to rigs for amberjack. The first one we could not get past the black tip sharks. The next rig appeared to be the same but after a few toothy critters I hooked an amberjack.

We were about to give up on the jacks but now that we had the range we had to get a limit of them at least. It was getting rougher fast. One on board and 2 more please

After we had our limit we went to a cluster of rigs that hold blackfin and the wahoo may be moving in about now. Note the bite marks on this guys tail. He came up with 2 sharks looking for a free meal. We won!

By this time it was so rough all we could do is troll and hope for the best. The water was beautifull. We bounced around in 4-6 footers and caught 2 or 3 more sharks on the troll and another big amberjack that got a repreeve. After working 6 rigs we decide to call it a day. Our ride in was so slow we could have trolled all the way in but we felt better just hanging on and ducking the spray coming over the side in the beam sea.

Unfortunatly all we could get today was these 3 aj's. Another boat with 5 on board could only get 3 because he had a hard time holding in place long enough to get a bite.

Life is Good!
Fishing is not a matter of life or death. It's more important than that.
