Default Wood working Help

My wife wanted a porch swing for Christmas. I bought her an unfinished Cypress wood swing. My question is what should I do to finish it? It will be on my back porch under the awning but will be exposed to the elements a bit due to wind.

I've heard and seen people do beautiful things with Cypress because of the grain of the wood and all the textures... I've just never used it before. Any help would be appreciated.

Stain? Sealer? Thompson's? Some combination?

Thanks!

O used Thompsons on mine and it looked like crap after a few months. I washed it with Jomaxx and then stained it with a dark cheap stain from Lowes. It looked great, but now after almost 5 years it has faded a lot.

You can stain it or leave the natural color but you need to top coat it with a spar varnish to protect it.

I see there are a couple of different choices... Any one you recommend for cypress and a natural look?
